Brooks Brothers | Editor’s Picks: Red Fleece Men’s Edition

Fall is here and winter isn’t too far off. Figuring out the best way to layer up and stay toasty can be a bit of a conundrum, so we’ve enlisted photographer and Unabashedly Prep founder F. E. Castleberry to help us with a key component of cold weather dressing: the puffer vest. He recommended three ways of working the slope-side staple into any wardrobe.

“I love layering–it’s inherently preppy and no layer is more versatile or easy to pull off than a puffer vest.”

WITH A SUIT “Go ahead, try a bright vest over a dark suit – it just works!” Just because you’re dressed up doesn’t mean you have to wear a topcoat. Grab a puffer next time you’re headed to the office.

WITH A BLAZER If you’re not quite ready for pairing your puffer with a full suit, try it in an ensemble of separates. “They add texture while being lightweight,” Castleberry says. Don a dark puffer under your tweed blazer to add insulation and mix up the textures.

WITH A SWEATER “Throw it over a Fair Isle sweater!” It’s a classic pairing. Add a matching knit cap and you’re ready for anything.
